Appointments to key academic and administrative posts in Acharya N.G. Ranga Agricultural University (ANGRAU) have been made in violation of the University Act and its statutes, allege senior professors.
The contention of a section of senior teachers is that appointments for the key posts such as Registrar; Estate Officer; Dean of Student Affairs, Dean of Agriculture and Dean of PG Studies were made in the absence of the Board. Those who are currently discharging the duties in these posts were assigned these responsibilities against the provisions of the university’s Act also. According to the Act, such key posts, either full time or temporary arrangements have to be filled under three different provisions of the Act and the present appointments do not fit into any of those provisions. “No other provision or norm is allowed for appointments to such positions except the University Act,” a senior professor claimed.
However, some teachers argue that such appointments can be made with the permission of the government in the absence of the Board of Management. The present appointments were based on such provision and they were not illegal as claimed by some teachers. “Since the Board of Management has now been constituted and also the Vice-Chancellor appointed, new appointments can be made according to the wishes of the Vice Chancellor,” another teacher said.
With the Board of Management meeting to be held soon, teachers want a serious discussion on the appointments to key posts.
