All arrangements in place for counting

The result for Charminar Assembly constituency is expected to be out first on Friday while the Yakuthpura Assembly constituency result will be announced last.

Speaking to presspersons on the arrangements for counting here on Wednesday, District Election Officer and GHMC Commissioner Somesh Kumar said that of the 15 Assembly and two Parliament constituencies of the district, the counting of votes will be completed first for Charminar by 12.30 p.m.

“Charminar Assembly constituency has 179 polling stations and with 15 tables and 13 rounds of counting, this will be the first result. The result for Yakuthpura constituency, which has 243 polling stations with 12 tables and 21 rounds, will be declared later,” he said.

Mr. Somesh Kumar said that all required arrangements were completed for the counting of votes at 15 different locations and appropriate security apparatus put in place. For Secunderabad, Secunderabad Cantonment and Sanathnagar constituencies, the counting of Assembly and Parliament votes will be done in different halls.

The consolidation of votes for Parliament constituencies of Hyderabad and Secunderabad will be done by the Returning Officers at Exhibition Grounds and Kotla Vijayabhaskara Reddy Stadium, Yousufguda respectively, said the Hyderabad Parliament Returning Officer and District Collector, M.K. Meena.

Three-layered security has been put in place at the counting stations with Central forces, State Armed Forces and Executive Police and the strong rooms will be opened on Friday at 6.30 a.m. by which time, the counting personnel have to be present. Apart from webcasting from the counting halls, arrangements have been made to announce round-wise counting through public address system and display boards, Mr. Somesh Kumar said.

To tackle possible technical glitches such as drained batteries of EVMs and so on, two engineers from ECIL will be positioned at each of the counting centres. “We have kept adequate number of spare batteries, more than 4,500, ready for emergency use,” he said.

For the conduct of elections in the district, a budget of Rs.17 crore has already been received and requisition for nearly Rs. 6 crore has been made. The DEO said election authorities have been approached with the demand of the staff for additional payment.
