A burglar attempted to loot a jewellery shop by digging a hole on its wall, but fled as the security alarm got set off at Kukatpally Housing Board Colony on Monday.

Police are trying to narrow down on the suspects based on the video footage recorded by a secret camera in the shop.

The visuals were not so clear to identify the intruder, but efforts were on to develop the images using technology, the KPHB Colony Inspector C. Baswa Reddy said.

The offender first entered a cloth store located on the first floor of an apartment complex in Bhagyanagar Colony by breaking open the shutter lock. He came to the ground floor of the shop by the internal staircase. Using a crow bar, he dug a hole big enough for a man to sneak inside. But the burglar beat a fast retreat as the security alarm began ringing.

No property was lost from the cloth store and the jewellery shop.
