An estimated two lakh students from across the country attempted the entrance test for admission to the prestigious All India Institutes of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), and it was two Telugu students who bagged the first two ranks.

While Pattisapu Srividya of Visakhapatnam bagged the first rank, Polisetty Vasishta stood second. Both were students of the Sri Chaitanya-Narayana Medical Academy.

Interestingly, she wants to concentre on research in molecular biology, instead of moving to the clinical side.

An ardent fan of the Harry Potter series, she said the books helped her unwind.

“I confined academics to college, and followed other interests of mine at home. I enjoyed sleeping for 8 hours even during preparations,” said the daughter of bank employees P.V.S. Prasad and J. Rajya Lakshmi. Srividya stood seventh in Eamcet, and eighth in Manipal and ninth in JIPMER tests.

Academic Directors of Sri Chaitanya-Narayana institutions Sushma Boppana and Sindhu Narayana said their students had bagged 12 ranks in the top 100. This would be the first time so many Telugu students had cleared AIIMS.
