Heavy rainfall lashed the city here on Sunday, leaving commuters stranded for more than an hour and caused traffic to go haywire, as roads got water-logged.
The Met department recorded 6.6 millimetres (mm) of rain and forecast that the coming 48 hours would also witness similar weather conditions.
The sudden showers resulted in vehicles slowing down at several main roads such as Raj Bhavan road, Panjagutta, Ameerpet, Oliphanta Bridge, Rail Nilayam, Musheerabad, Padma Rao Nagar, Masab Tank, and other places.
At many places, streets were logged with knee-deep water, giving commuters who were waiting for RTC buses a hard time. However, being a Sunday, the traffic situation improved within a short while after the rainfall stopped.
Met officials said that the intermittent rains were a result of the moisture over the Bay of Bengal and Arabian Sea, which leads to instability in the atmosphere and thunderstorms.
“The concentration is more over the Telangana region than Coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema. Hence, Hyderabad will continue to witness thunder showers or rain spells in the coming two days as well,” said an official.
Temperatures
On Sunday, the maximum and minimum temperatures recorded were 30 degrees Celsius and 19.6 degrees Celsius, while the humidity was 83 per cent.
Meteorological officials stated that Monday would also record similar numbers, without much change in the weather.
