HYDERABAD: Students can expect 10 per cent hike in engineering fee in the sought-after colleges this year. Fee in about 200 other engineering colleges is likely to be Rs. 30,000 and Rs. 35,000 while in another 300 colleges, it would be between Rs. 35,000 and Rs. 1.25 lakh.
The Admission and Fee Regulation Committee (AFRC) prepared its report on the fee structure after an elaborate exercise of two months to be presented to the Government on Wednesday paving way for clarity on engineering admissions date.
The Government is likely to give its nod within two days.
Sought-after colleges
The AFRC is said to have agreed for around 10 per cent increase over the existing fee in the colleges that sought higher fee structure. This means that the highest fee this year may be around Rs. 1.15 lakh in some colleges sought-after by students for their ‘brand and quality’.
A senior official said that some of these ‘top’ colleges sought huge increase over the present year’s fee but AFRC was not convinced for such a huge hike. However, for the 200-odd colleges that failed to submit their accounts, the AFRC has recommended Rs. 30,000 fee, reducing the existing fee by Rs. 5,000.
Such colleges have to submit their accounts within three months or else they will lose out on the fee. No hike was recommended for another 300-odd colleges that have submitted their accounts but did not seek any hike in the fee.
Technical Education Commissioner Ajay Jain said admission process will start once the fee structure is finalised and announced.
Management quota
Arguments on the “B” category (management quota) admissions too have begun in the High Court on Tuesday and the Government expects a ruling its favour as ‘online’ admission process proposed by it will ensure transparency and respects merit. A few private colleges had approached the court questioning the government’s interference and got a stay.
