An appeal seeking the prosecution of MIM MLA Akbaruddin Owaisi and his associates for their alleged involvement in the killing of Ibrahim Yafai in April, 2011, was submitted to the Chief Minister here, on Monday.
In a representation, Yafai’s mother, Zubeda Begum, said that while police registered cases against her relative, Mohammed Pahelwan and other family members, they did not take any action so far against Mr. Owaisi though a complaint was filed. The Pahelwan family had a running feud with the Owaisis in old city.
Later speaking to the media, Ms. Zubeda Begum, accompanied by PUCL President Jaya Vindhyala alleged that her son Yafai was killed when Mr. Akbaruddin shot at her family members during an altercation. The incident in the limits of Chadrayangutta Police Station also left her two other sons with bullet injuries.
She said that she filed a complaint against MLAs Owaisi, Ahmed Bin Balala and others as per the directions of the High Court and the Supreme Court. After repeated representations, the Chandrayangutta police finally registered cases for the offences punishable under various sections of IPC and Arms Act against Mr. Owaisi and others. However, no arrests have been made.
