Villagers set fire to four sand-laden lorries and damaged six other lorries for alleged rash and negligent driving resulting in the death of a villager in Jillela village of Thangalapalli mandal on Sunday night.
Reports reaching here said that B Bhudaiah (65) of Nerella village was hit by a speeding sand-laden lorry in Jillela village on Sunday killing him on the spot. Last month, two more persons were killed on the road due to the rash driving by the sand-laden lorries. Following the spread of news of death of villager on Sunday, the villagers arrived in large numbers and stopped the lorries and set fire to four of them and broke glass-panes of six other lorries.
When the fire tender rushed to the spot, the villagers did not allow it to put off the fire. Later, the police rushed to the spot and pacified the agitationists and shifted the dead body to the Sircilla area hospital.
Collector, SP visit spot
On Monday, Collector D Krishna Bhaskar and SP Vishwajit K along with R&B officials visited the accident spot and and interacted with villagers. He instructed the authorities to erect sign boards, speed-breakers and proper illumination on the road to avoid accidents. He promised to provide all assistance to the bereaved family members.
