A Sub-Inspector of Vanasthalipuram police station, T. Shankar, was nabbed by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) officials on Tuesday after he allegedly received Rs. 8,000 bribe from a person.

The complainant, Madhusudhan, a businessman, was earlier arrested in a cheating case. T. Shankar, who investigated that case, seized the complainant’s bike. Madhusudhan approached the SI seeking release of his vehicle after coming out from jail on bail.

“The SI demanded bribe to release the motorcycle and asked the complainant to hand over the money to Ramesh, owner of a nearby grocery store,” ACB DSP S.K. Chandrashekhar said. The tainted sum was recovered from Ramesh by the officials.

Along with the SI, the grocery store owner too was arrested. They would be produced before a local court on Wednesday.
