Activists allegedly belonging to the Akhila Bharatiya Vidhyarthi Parishad vandalised the office of Narayana junior college at Narayanaguda on Thursday.
The attackers also hurled stones at a police patrolling car, damaging it. Raising slogans against Narayana educational institutions, a group of youngsters barged into the college building in the evening and started breaking everything that came their way.
They charged that a manager of Narayana group, Jayasimha Reddy, had been harassing women employees and a woman principal of the college ended her life in Hayathnagar a couple of years ago due to his sexual harassment.
ABVP Telangana Joint Secretary P. Srihari, later in a statement, alleged that the officials remained mute spectators even as Mr. Reddy continued to harass women employees.
The ABVP has called for closure of all Narayana educational institutions in the State today (Friday) protesting against the misdeeds of Reddy and Narayana management’s “failure to act against Reddy”. Mr. Srihari charged that a woman principal of Narayana junior college ended her life a couple of years ago due to harassment of Mr. Reddy.
Meanwhile, a phone conversation between a woman and a man revolving around that suicide and suspicions of harassment by others got leaked and went viral on social media.
The woman and man, whose voices were heard in the audio tape, were yet to be identified but speculation was rife that they were familiar with the circumstances that led to the principal’s death. “We have no information about any such suicide. Nevertheless, we're verifying whether any such instance was reported earlier,” Narayana Deputy General Manager Ramaraju said.
Meanwhile, the Narayanaguda police registered a criminal case against the miscreants who vandalised the college office and damaged police vehicle.
“Along with other sections, we are invoking Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act against them since a government vehicle was damaged,” Central zone DCP D. Joel Davis said.
