Unable to cope with the rush and public outrage over sluggish enrolment at Aadhaar centres, officials have ordered for the closure of one such centre at Hayatnagar.
Closure notices pasted by mandal-level revenue officials greeted those who went to enrol themselves on Wednesday.
No progress
Upon enquiry, the District Supply Officer (DSO) Narasimha Reddy informed that the centre was closed down as there was no visible progress in work in the past two days due to the unprecedented rush and protests. It would resume work in a couple of days, he said.
Meanwhile, Ranga Reddy District collector A. Vani Prasad, in a meeting with oil company representatives and Aadhaar enrolment agencies, has asked the DSO to identify locations for setting up enrolment centres in the nine municipalities surrounding areas under the GHMC.
“The centres will be closer to the LPG distribution points so that consumers without UID (Unique Identification) numbers may enrol themselves. These consumers will be given tokens by the respective LPG dealers indicating the date and location of enrolment,” Mr. Reddy informed.
Enrolment services will also be facilitated at Mee Seva centres in Balanagar, Mothinagar and Kukatpally, Ms. Prasad said.
LPG linkage can wait
While assuring that there will be no linkage between Aadhaar numbers and LPG distribution as of now, the collector urged all consumers who have the UID or EID numbers to register the same along with bank account numbers, with the LPG dealers.
Efforts are on to restart the Aadhaar enrolment procedure within 10 days.
Consumers will be informed about the centres through text messages or through the media, a press release said.
