The deep rumble is enough to quicken your pulse. A light tug to the accelerator and it lets out a roar that is sure to draw onlookers to a halt. As had happened in Ranigunj on Saturday evening.

The candy-red beauty that sat royally on its central stand, the 1800-cc Honda Goldwing, is perhaps the only bike of its kind in the State capital. The six-cylinder motorcycle is shaft-driven and can touch 230 kilometres per hour (kmph) very easily, its owner Gurudev Singh Sokhi explains excitedly.

And if one were to ride it in extreme conditions, the high-speed mobike comes with an airbag, seat heater and heated handlebar grips. There is also an onboard GPS tracker and ample on-board storage facility.

There is more to the vehicle – it has a reverse gear too. Given its sheer weight of 500 kg, it’s virtually impossible to reverse the vehicle manually.

How does one hope to ride the bike on the busy Hyderabad roads?

“It’s difficult to manoeuvre it in the city traffic. But we drive it only at night. It’s impossible to drive it during day time, mostly because people slow down to have a look at it”, Mr. Sokhi says.

How much does it cost to own the beast? Mr. Sokhi declines to answer this query with a smile. Any guesses?
