He is just seven years old, but can read and write seven different languages. If Tamil is his mother tongue, then Arabic and Hebrew languages are completely new even to his parents.

Meet Vinay Joseph of New Bowenpally who learns the languages through animation programmes available on ‘YouTube’ and spends a good part of his leisure time doing it. Moreover, he does it all alone and has been doing it for the last year and a half.

The seven-year-old has learned to read and write letters and words in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, Spanish, Hebrew, Malayalam and Arabic. “We just allow him to do it and do not interfere in his work. He does it all alone using the computer,” his mother, Feeji Bijoy says.

He started by learning Telugu and soon began learning other languages. While most of the children like playing outdoor games he spends his time with his passion, his mother says. Joseph studies in grade II at the St. Peters’ Public School at Old Bowenpally.

The next in line is ‘Latin’ that he wants to learn from the big list of languages. “I will learn it fast,” Vinay says confidently.
