A peek into future of telecom, media

Engineering students got an insight into the rapidly growing telecom, media and entertainment industries and the immense opportunities they hold for engineering graduates during the next few decades. At the same time they were made to understand the need to equip themselves with the necessary skills to grab the opportunities.

Presenting a futuristic picture of these industries were S. Ramakrishna, Mobility Head, Tata Teleservices, AP circle and Sanjay Reddy, MD, Silly Monks Entertainment Private Limited. They were addressing students at the launch of The Hindu Future India Club Guest Lecture Series at the CMR Institute of Technology here on Tuesday. The event was jointly organised by The Hindu and Tate Teleservices Ltd.

Mr. Ramakrishna said the telecom industry had registered tremendous growth and would continue to expand with the rural population also relying on mobile phones.

He pointed out how the entry of smart phones in 2010 had brought in revolutionary changes and how they would be part of thefuture. “This is where the role of youngsters with ideas will be required. This field will open up huge opportunities in the future,” he said. Mr. Sanjay Reddy said there were about 778 television channels and many more were on the anvil. Generation of original content and variety in content would throw up opportunities. He said social media would see tremendous growth in terms of generating business.

CMR Group of Institutions secretary and correspondent Ch. Gopal Reddy and Principal CMR Institute of Technology M. Janga Reddy, also spoke.
