Want to run while the architectural marvel of the Kakatiya kings unfolds in front of your eyes? Then an upcoming marathon, which passes through the famous Warangal fort and Thousand Pillar Temple, is the ‘go-to’ event for all the heritage lovers.

To be held on March 22, Sunday, the ‘Go Heritage Run- Warangal’ marathon is being organised by GoUNESCO, INTACH, Kakatiya Heritage Trust. The run is also supported by various government bodies. The event is being sponsored by Kapil Group.

The marathon will be conducted in the categories of 5 km and 16 km, but the organisers informed that based on the response they might also include 21 km race.

Ajay Mohan Reddy of GoUNESCO said that through the run, they wanted to promote arts, culture and heritage of Warangal.

“We also expect financial incentives to locals through these runs. The finishers will get medals and certificates made of Cheriyal painting, a unique art form of Telangana. We are expecting a participation of around 350 runners from outside Warangal apart from the locals,” said Mr. Ajay at a pre-event press meet held in the city.

Anuradha Reddy of INTACH said that the heritage sites outside Hyderabad also need to be promoted. “These kinds of activities help people get exposed to monuments and cultures. A cultural programme consisting of Perini dance performance will be held on March 21 at the Thousand Pillar Temple. The sculptures on the temple premises depict this art form, which used to be practised by men before a war.”
