Hyderabad Metro Rail invites suggestions from women for making travel safe
Closed-circuit cameras, visible and invisible surveillance, facilities for frisking and scanning and separate coaches for women form part of measures being planned for making the Hyderabad Metro Rail (HMR) gender safe.
Announcing the details at a press conference on Friday, HMR Managing Director N.V.S. Reddy said uniformed personnel as well as plainclothesmen from the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), including women officers, would keep watch over metro stations. In addition, private security guards will be employed.
Moreover, closed-circuit camera footage will be continuously monitored from the Operation Control Centre (OCC) being set up at the Uppal depot.
Gang-rape incident
In view of the Delhi gang-rape incident, HMR has invited suggestions from women across the spectrum for making travel safer.
Towards this end, essay writing, elocution, quiz and debate competitions will be conducted, the application forms for which are available at the HMR stall at the ongoing industrial exhibition.
The suggestions will be discussed at a Women’s Conclave to be held in March with participation from businesswomen, woman IAS and IPS officers, NGOs and academicians.
Implementation
The ideas emerging from the conclave will be presented to the HMR technical team for implementation while designing coaches and stations, Mr. Reddy said.
Replying to a question, he said women’s participation in the Metro Rail project was negligible as of now, but women engineers coming forward were welcome.
Efforts are on to encourage women entrepreneurs to set up food courts and shopping centres as part of the project.

i guess people who are commenting here must actually advice through
phone or email to HMR...
Good initiation.
Please provide women's lounge with Security personal. So that, they can rest in peace, if they need to wait for some time, for a friend or Family person to pick them up at the station.
I would request the concerned authorities to look into following
points of interest:-
1) Install emergency phone service which is free in metro station and
inside the train.
2) Metro station should have emergency lights in station in the event
of power failure
3) Clear instruction in 3 languages namely English, Hindi and Telugu
should be provided in metro station on how to seek help in case of
emergency.
4) A suggestion box in each metro on how to improve security. This
will be a learning while we start using these station.
Thanks
HMR is long way to go. Firstly i would suggest to install CCTV camera and hidden cameras on public transport such as RTC buses and Train and connect remotly to nearest Office and control room through GPRS. By this way we can monitor and record the incidents.
Unfortunately, now-a-days women still feel unsafe at public places. If
i would recommend for safety measures in metro rails, my suggestion
would be that, firstly separate women compartments must be made.
secondly, women forces (surveillance) must be increased. thirdly CC
Cameras must be working in all public places. i hope, this at least
can curb criminal acts. Hope, any of these measures can take effect.
Please assign woman police constables in the train.
Please provide proper restroom (maintained) at all metro stations so that women do not have to face issues while travelling. Even paid and maintained clean would be really helpful to females travelling.
