Scores of unemployed youth reportedly went on a rampage and ransacked the Little Flower Junior College premises where a job mela was held. About 10,000 unemployed youth from different districts had turned up for the event, where the organiser had set up infrastructure sufficient to accommodate 600 people, said the Uppal police. The incident took place at about 10 a.m. inside the college premises an hour after the job mela began, said Uppal inspector Y. Narasimha Reddy. After the incident, a case was booked against Nemmali Kumar, the organiser, who is an ex-employee of top tech company.
“He had advertised about the event a lot on Facebook and Whatsapp due to which thousands of people turned up there,” said the inspector. He added that Kumar had charged ₹200 as registration fees, and people up were angry as they could not even apply for jobs.
Kumar had called 20 companies to the job fair, said Mr. Reddy. The angry youngsters reportedly damaged property and the commotion even spread to the main road, before it was quelled, he added. Based on the complaint of a job aspirant Raju who had come to the fair, a case was registered under section 420 of the Indian Penal Code against Kumar for cheating.
