Water released into SRSP flood flow canal

NIZAMABAD: Sri Ram Sagar Project authorities today released water into Flood Flow Canal to recharge ground water in open wells and bore-wells all along the canal till Tungathurthy and Suryapet in Suryapet district.

The authorities took this decision following the orders by Minister for Irrigation T. Harish Rao on the request of Finance Minister Etala Rajender.

Finance Minister addressing a press conference here said that the farmers had been seeking water and added that he would request the Irrigation Minister to take immediate action. Within a few hours water was released in the canal.

According to project Executive Engineer Rama Rao, water would be released into the FFC for only three days. On Saturday 3,000 cusecs was let out, on Sunday 2,000 cusecs would be released and 1,000 cusecs on Monday, he said. Only 1.5 tmcf would be given in the three days, he said.

As of now, water is at 1083.7 ft with 62.87 tmcf in the reservoir as against its total capacity of 90 tmcf. Water is being released simultaneously in its main Kakatiya canal, Saraswathi and Lakshmi canals.
