The Railway Board has assured the Telangana Government of completing the proposed “periodical wagon overhauling workshop” at Kazipet in two years time.
The assurance was given by Railway Board Member (Rolling Stock) Ravindra Gupta to a delegation of the Government led by Deputy Chief Minister Kadiyam Srihari in New Delhi on Tuesday. Mr. Srihari also handed over the State Government orders about the alienation of 160 acres of land required for the purpose in favour of Railways.
Accompanied by MPs A. Seetaram Naik and P. Dayakar and Special Representatives of the State Government in Delhi S. Venugopala Chary and T. Ramachandrudu, the Mr. Srihari called on Mr. Gupta and discussed about the Kazipet wagon workshop.
Mr. Gupta told the delegation that establishing the workshop would be completed by March-end 2019 since the land required has been handed over to Railways now. Mr. Srihari stated that the 160 acres land was given to Railways free of cost and requested the Railway Board to complete the project at the earliest.
The Deputy CM later told newspersons that the Railway Board member had also responded positively to the Government request for developing a mega terminal at Cherlapally, keeping in view the increasing passenger traffic to Hyderabad.
Mr. Ravindra Gupta had also assured to examine the requests for reintroducing a passenger train from Khammam to Yellandu for the benefit of Singareni Collieries workers. Mr. Seetaram Naik said it was discontinued a few years ago and he had been pursuing for its re-introduction for over two years now.
The delegation also urged the Railway Board Member to take up laying of new track between Pandurangapuram and Sarapak for a distance of 13 km for the benefit of pilgrim visiting Bhadrachalam as the small line would link the temple town with the main railway line.
