“We don’t know what exactly happened as there were no eyewitnesses. There was a bike as well and it is unclear whether two or three or all four of them were on the bike,” said the official. There were no street lights. The two injured persons were shifted to a hospital for treatment.
Identified
The man who set himself ablaze and committed suicide in front of the Hyderabad Archbishop’s house on Saturday morning was identified as Dean Benedict (42), a resident of Vijay Puri Colony in Tarnaka. Benedict had been under financial stress and hence took the extreme step, said an official of the north zone police.
According to B. Sumathi, north zone Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Benedict used to run a battery shop. “His mother-in-law was undergoing treatment for cancer, which is also why he was facing financial difficulties,” she added. On Saturday morning, Benedict had purchased two litres of petrol and burnt himself to death, exactly opposite the DCP’s office around 6 a.m.
He is survived by wife and three children.
