Two drunk men tried to kidnap a 14-year-old girl at Gunthapally village, Abdullapurmet mandal. The duo tried to force her into their car on Wednesday evening. The incident took place at about 5 p.m., when the girl, a student of the ZPHS High School at Majidpur village, was returning home.
Hot chase
Luckily, a senior citizen intervened, followed the men on his bike and caught them after a chase with the help of other passers-by.
The accused were identified as Ramesh Kumar (37), a cab driver and his friend Srikanth, both residents of Majidpur village.
They were travelling in Ramesh’s cab bearing the number TS08UB 6361.
A. Jagadish, the senior citizen, handed them over to the Hayathnagar police after stopping the two drunk men. An interceptor vehicle of the police was also sent to the spot immediately after the police was informed.
Jagadish managed to first catch one of the accused, and the other was found later at the outskirts of Majidpur village.
Ramesh and Srikanth were booked under sections 354 and 366 read with 511 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and also under relevant sections of he Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) and SC/ST Atrocity Act, as the girl belonged to the SC community, said J. Narender Goud, Inspector, Hayathnagar police station.
