Release of TDF fact finding team sought

January 21, 2017 11:49 pm | Updated 11:50 pm IST - HYDERABAD:

Revolutionary writer Varavara Rao on Saturday said that the arrest of seven fact-finding team members of the Telangana Democratic Front (TDF) was merely an effect, and the duty of the intellectuals was to seek after the cause and fight against it.

He wished that the movement that began for the release of members, will now last till all the political prisoners were released from the Chhattisgarh jails, including hundreds of Adivasis.

Mr. Varavara Rao was addressing a demonstration organised by the TDF for the release of team members who were arrested last month by the Chhattisgarh police, allegedly from Dummugudem in Khammam, and lodged in Sukma Jail presently.

Academic Padmaja Shaw attributed the arrests to the Central Government policies since the UPA government which had begun to incentivise the arbitrary killings and atrocities of the security agencies. The crimes are being outsourced to extra constitutional forces such as Salwa Judum and Agni which are proxy organisations for the State forces.

Activist-singer Vimalakka also spoke.

G. Laxman from Civil Liberties Committee, Nalamasa Krishna from Telangana Praja Front, Lakshmaiah from KNPS, and Devendra from Chaitanya Mahila Sangham expressed solidarity with TDF.
