Happy hour: Children greeting Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan and his wife Vimala Narasimhan at Raj Bhavan in the city on Sunday.

It was a fun-filled morning at Raj Bhavan for scores of children from various schools in the city, as Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan wished them on the New Year, besides a host of political leaders, Ministers, bureaucrats and police officials paying them a visit.

Dressed in their finest, schoolchildren and college students greeted the Governor and his wife Vimala Narasimhan. Several teenagers from Intermediate colleges across the city and young graduates too had come to take part in the celebrations.

Prominent among those who were present are Hyderabad Commissioner of Police M. Mahinder Reddy; Andhra Pradesh Legislative Council Speaker D. Chakrapani; TRS MP Samudrala Venugopal Chary; former DG, Anti Corruption Bureau, A.K. Khan and GHMC Commissioner B. Janardhan Reddy.

Addressing the people of both Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, the Governor wished everyone good health, educational excellence and happiness in 2017.

“I want AP and Telangana States to be role models for other States. People have formed the governments and they should help them now in their progress. We can reach excellence only if we work with the governments,” he said. The Governor’s residence was decked up with flowers and other dazzling paraphernalia for the occasion while Carnatic music playing in the background was a beautiful addition to the festive ambience.

Traffic on the busy Raj Bhavan road was diverted for over an hour owing to VIP movement in the area. While the Governor and his wife left the venue after an hour, more invitees were found pouring in to the venue.
