It happens to be one of the oldest green stretches and most popular lung space in the city that has gained unprecedented hues of a concrete jungle in the last few years.
And having retained its charm despite the coming up of several new recreation spots such as Lumbini Park and NTR Garden, the undulating acreage of Sanjeevaiah Park is all set to get a new boost.
Tourism potential
The Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) has come out with a proposal for a comprehensive development of the park that is spread over 92 acres on the side of the Hussainsagar lake. “The park is huge and has environment still well preserved. It has a huge water front too which offers high potential for development,” says Sunil Kumar Gupta, HMDA Member Environment.
Since exercise is on to rid the Hussainsagar lake of its pollution and restore its lost glory , Sanjeevaiah Park holds good tourism potential.
“It can be done without setting up permanent structures and can have activities such as water sports,” he observes.
Part of the Shore Area Development for which around Rs.13 crore has been earmarked, the proposal made in the HMDA Budget 2010-2011 seeks to have a comprehensive development of the park while retaining all its environmental aspects, including the greenery and trees. “We are looking at adopting water and energy conservation measures and also night illumination apart from water sports,” Mr. Gupta says.
Party zone
The park, it is pointed out, has different shades and the initiative looks at making use of the same. A party zone is among the possibilities that are being explored.
Ecological park
Also, the HMDA is proposing ecological park on the 17-acre site opposite the Krishna Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS). On the lines of the park development done opposite the IMAX, the plan is to have pathways and other paraphernalia on this site.
