Celebrations peaked in every nook and corner of the city as the revellers ushered in the New Year. Right from restaurants to gated communities, cultural events and get-together parties became the norm on Saturday. With December 31 falling on Saturday, youngsters and techies in large numbers flocked watering holes.
Compared to previous years, the traffic flow was smooth with very few major junctions witnessing congestion.
Till late night, shops and commercial establishments remained open even as police and traffic officials were spotted keeping a vigil on the streets.
In Gachibowli, Jubilee Hills, Banjara Hills and Madhapur, huge crowds were seen flocking to private events which charged entry fee ranging from a couple of thousands to Rs. 12,000. However, there were also discontent families who alleged that there are very few places in the city which allowed children.
Blaring music from cars and high-spirited bike riders were seen enjoying themselves on the roads.
Event organisers as well as individual households ensured that fireworks marked the onset of the New Year. Farm houses on the city outskirts and resorts reported near full bookings even in the backdrop of demonetisation.
Food courts, drive-ins and food trucks made brisk business throughout the night.
