The moral remains of Srinivas Kuchibhotla were expected to arrive at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in the city late on Monday evening.

Kuchibhotla, 32, was shot dead at a Kanasas bar on February 22 and later succumbed to the injuries. The incident was a suspected hate crime and is under investigation. Kuchibhotla’s friend and colleague Alok Madasani was also injured in the attack but was now said to be recovering.

On Sunday, several political leaders, including Union Ministers Venkaiah Naidu and Bandaru Dattatreya visited the bereaved family at their home on city’s outskirts. The Ministers informed them that the Indian government would extend all necessary support and that it would seriously pursue the killing with the US government.

Kuchibhotla’s wife Sunayana Dumala said a day before during a press conference that she wanted to know from the US government what it would do to stop such incidents. “I need an answer from every one of them what is that they are going to stop this hate crime,” she had said.

The Union Minister told reporters that there had been multiple such incidents and they created an atmosphere of distrust among migrants even as he said Kuchibhotla’s death should be investigated and strongs action be taken.
