BHADRADRI-KOTHAGUDEM: The annual religious fair at Ediraguttalu hillocks in Charla mandal, which got off to a delayed start owing to a dispute between two groups of separate villages on Tuesday night, witnessed a huge turnout of tribal people from far and near on the second day of the jatara on Wednesday.
A row between two groups representing Subbampeta in Charla mandal of the district and another border village in the neighbouring Jayashankar Bhupalapalli district over the rights of conducting the Jatara sparked a controversy that led to delayed start of the annual fair.
The issue has been sorted out at least for the time being following the intervention of the Revenue officials of both the districts, sources said. Scores of tribal people from various corners of Bhadrachalam Agency and the remote tribal pockets of the neighbouring districts within the State and the adjoining Chhattisgarh thronged the Jatara on Wednesday. They worshipped the tribal goddesses at the altar at the foothills of Ediraguttalu.
The Revenue and Police departments have made elaborate arrangements at Ediraguttalu hillocks, the venue of the jatara, in anticipation of huge turnout of devotees on Thursday. The jatara will conclude on February 11.
