The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) launched an initiative to sell treated sewage water to improve its revenues.
The board announced that the treated sewage water could be lifted from its various treatment plants in the city by paying ₹125 per 5,000 litres. Tanker and transportation expenses, however, are to be borne by the consumer, a press statement of the HMWSSB said on Thursday.
Union Ministry directive
The Union Ministry of Urban Development had insisted that 28% of treated water should be recycled for reuse, preferably for construction, irrigation, and gardening, the statement noted.
Many operations
The board was, as of now, operating four secondary sewage treatment plants at Amberpet, Nagole, Nallacheruvu, and Attapur, in addition to 14 tertiary treatment plants at Khairatabad, Begumpet, Rangadhamini lake, Pedda Cheruvu, Patel Cheruvu, Miralam tank, Saroor Nagar, Langar Houz, Durgam Cheruvu, Noor Mohammed Kunta, Safilguda, Khaja Kunta, JVR Park, and Krishnakanth Park.
