February every year, after a festive January, is generally considered rather dull, especially for those who like to chill out with family and friends watching films in theatres.
There are several reasons – be it a few weeks before the annual examinations, hectic work before the end of the financial year and so on and so forth. But 2017 promises to be different, with a whopping nine films scheduled to hit the screens in the two States. For a quick rehash of Sankranti releases, they include Khaidi No. 150 starring Chiranjeevi, Gautamiputra Satakarni with Nandamuri Balakrishna and Shatamanam Bhavathi with Sharwanand. All three were hits, thrilling the makers and the fans big-time. January will end with Suriya’s Singam 3 .
The first Friday, February 3, has Nenu local with actor Nani and Keerthy Suresh, Manchu Vishnu’s Luckunnodu and Manchu Lakshmi’s Lakshmi Bomb . Directed by Trinadha Rao Nakkina, Nenu Local appears to have everything going for it and in particular, Devi Sri Prasad’s music that has already hit the charts. This is followed by Om Namo Venkatesaya with Akkineni Nagarjuna in all his spirituality, essaying the role of Hathiram, a devotee of the Lord of the Seven Hills, and Manchu Manoj’s Gunturodu , releasing the following week (Feb. 10).
Cut to February 17 and we have Rana Daggubati, Taapsee, Atul Kulkarni and the late Om Puri in Ghazi , a Hindi-Telugu bilingual about the sinking of the submarine PNS Ghazi. As far as the Telugu film industry is concerned, this will be the second war-based film after director Krish Jagarlamudi’s Kanche that bagged a national award last year.
On the same day as Ghazi , actor Raj Tarun’s Kittu Vunnadu Jagratha directed by Vamsikrishna of Dongaata fame will hit the screens. It was to have released earlier last year, but got delayed. Music by Anup Reubens is said to be the highlight as is the glamorous appearance of Anu Emmanuel who became familiar with audiences after Majnu .
The month will close with what promises to be a winner, with a movie by the same name, starring Sai Dharam Tej and Rakul Preet Singh. Winner is produced by Tagore Madhu and Nallamalupu Bujji and directed by Gopichand Malineni who boasts of three hits in three years – Balupu and Don Seenu with Ravi Teja in the lead and Pandaga Chesuko starring Ram.
