Election schedule for three MLCs seats released

The Election Commission of India on Tuesday issued schedule for conducting biennial elections to three seats in the Telangana Legislative Council, to be elected by the Members of the Legislative Assembly.

The members (MLCs) who would be retiring on March 29 are Syed Altaf Hyder Razvi, M. Ranga Reddy and Gangadhar Goud Vullolla. The notification would be issued on February 28, last date for making nominations would be March 7 and the last date for withdrawal would be March 10.

Polling would be held from 9 am to 4 pm on March 17 and the counting of votes taken up from 5 pm the same day.

Meanwhile, notification was issued for biennial election to the Hyderabad Local Authorities' Constituency. Nominations would be accepted till February 28 and the last date for withdrawal of candidature is March 3. Polling would be held on March 17 from 8 am to 4 pm and the counting of votes would be taken up on March 20.

The election is being held as Syed Aminul Hasan Jafri will be retiring on May 1.

Nominations rejected

Two nominations for the teachers constituency in Rangareddy, Hyderabad and Mahabubnagar for the MLC elections were rejected. After screening 33 nominations submitted by 17 candidates, returning officer Adwait Kumar Singh rejected the nominations on technical grounds. Another candidate was given time till Wednesday to explain and a decision regarding the application status was put on hold. The returning officer said the polling would be held from 8 am to 6 pm on March 9.
