Cheating people in the name of State Chief Secretary

A 35-year-old film producer has been arrested by the cyber crime cell, Central Crime Station (CCS) for cheating people by posing as an Additional Secretary with the Prime Minister’s Office and also as the State Government’s Chief Secretary. The accused, V. Anand Babu, also called and messaged district collectors and senior police officials under those names.

Anand introduced himself to various VIPs and other government officers as A. K. Sharma, Addl. Secretary to the PMO and as the State’s Chief Secretary Narsing Rao. According to Avinash Mohanty, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), CCS, the accused cheated two persons on the pretext of providing jobs to them in the Software Technology Private Limited, New Delhi and took huge amounts of money from them.

A native of Amalapuram in East Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh, Anand’s impersonation came to light after B. Madhusudan, a CCS sub-inspector, got information about his misdeeds. A case was registered and the accused was subsequently arrested.

Illegal sale of CSD goods

Seven persons including five ex-servicemen were arrested by the Special Operations Team (SOT) of the Rachakonda police for purchasing groceries from army Canteen Store Departments (CSD) and selling it at higher prices to people. The ex-servicemen were using the canteen cards of those who are in service and even purchasing electronic items, which one S. Srinivas would later sell at higher prices after giving the former 22% of the CSD’s cost price.

The accused were identified as S. Srinivas, a kirana store owner, Atla Kantha Rao (ex-serviceman), E. Laxmaiah (ex-serviceman), B. Varuganti (ex-serviceman), M. Srinivasulu (ex-serviceman), G. Veera Basker Reddy and B. Devidass, an auto-driver. After their arrest, SOT officials seized 129 cartons containing CSD groceries worth ₹ 5 lakh, 15 CSD smart cards, ₹ 1.01 lakh in cash and an auto-trolley from their possession.
