The Central Board of Excise and Customs (CBEC) is the single largest contributor to the national exchequer with the collection of ₹ 8,50,000 crore a year, said Chief Commissioner Sandeep. M. Bhatanagar.
He was speaking at the 74th Central Excise Day celebrations here on Thursday. On the revenue front, Hyderabad Zone expects to contribute ₹ 17, 950 crore to the Central Excise.
Justice Satish Chandra, President, Customs, Central Excise and Service Tax Appellate Tribunal (CESTAT), who was the chief guest, appreciated the Central Excise Department for its contribution in the collection of various taxes and duties and advised the department to be friendly with the tax payers.
He also referred to some instances in the CESTAT where he had delivered favourable decisions on the basis of secondary evidence tendered by the appellants.
Olympic silver medallist, P.V. Sindhu, who was the guest of honour, thanked the Government for giving an opportunity to participate in Goods and Service Tax (GST) campaign.
On this occasion, eight members of trade and industry were felicitated for their contribution to the revenue and 15 departmental officers with outstanding performance in collection and other duties were also honoured.
