Eighty-four students of Andhra Pradesh Social Welfare Residential Education Institutions Society (APSWREIS) created history by qualifying for the IIT advanced test this year.

These students have the poorest socio-economic background and hail from interior villages, said Dr. R.S. Praveen Kumar, Secretary, APSWREIS.

He said over 110 students of Social Welfare Residential Junior College, Nagole had appeared for the AIEEE examination held on April 7 and 57 of them had cleared it successfully.

Of these 49 are boys and eight are girls.

In fact, about 14 lakh students throughout India appeared and only 1,50,000 qualified.

Similarly 84 students of Center of Excellence, Karimnagar which again belongs to the APSWREI Society appeared for the same AIEEE examination and 27 of them qualified.

All these students are eligible to join NITs and the advanced IIT/JEE examination which will be held on June 2.

“This is truly a great achievement as these students make their poor parents and the APSWREI Society proud. Students are now more confident of securing a place in leading NITs and IITs,” said Dr. Kumar.
