81 motorists held for drunken driving

Two city courts on Wednesday awarded imprisonments to 81 motorists for mixing drinks with driving. While two motorists were sent to 10-day imprisonment, one motorist was awarded seven-day imprisonment, 31 motorists five-day imprisonments, 36 motorists three-day imprisonment, and 11 motorists were awarded two-day imprisonment, a press release said.

These motorists were among the 269 motorists who were booked for drink driving during a special enforcement drive conducted on March 7 and 8. Of the 269 motorists, 205 were driving two-wheelers, 60 motorists were driving four-wheelers, three motorists were driving three-wheelers, and one was driving a heavy vehicle. A fine of Rs. 2,600 was imposed on the motorists by the city courts.

A total of 2,943 drink driving cases have been registered by the city police this year, of who, 441 motorists were awarded imprisonment, the release said.
