8 kg gold seized

October 08, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:37 am IST - HYDERABAD:

Eight kilograms of gold carried by two businessmen from Mumbai was seized by the Cyberabad police during a cordon-and-search operation conducted on Wednesday.

The businessmen, Jitendar Singh and Gopal, came to the city from Mumbai and checked into a lodge at Balanagar. “We seized the property as they failed to produce receipts in support of the gold ornaments. Basically, they are salesmen. We handed over the property to the Income Tax Department for further investigation,” ACP Balanagar N. Narsimha Reddy said. About 7,000 police personnel of different ranks participated in the operation. A total of 90 check points were set up across the Cyberabad commissionerate spread over 3,600 sq km area.

“We will conduct it more frequently to instil a fear amongst the criminals. People should cooperate with us,” Cyberabad Commissioner C.V. Anand said.

The police have appealed to people to carry all documents of vehicles in order to avoid inconvenience.
