Eight customs officials were booked on the charge of assaulting a passenger at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) here, police said on Sunday.
“A case was registered against eight customs officials under sections 323 (assault) and 379 (theft) of IPC yesterday [on Saturday] after a passenger, P. Narasaiah, accused unnamed customs officials of manhandling him at the airport and losing his gold chain during the scuffle,” Assistant Commissioner of Police (Shamshabad Division) Ch. Srinivas Rao told PTI.
Narasaiah, who flew in from Muscat on Friday, lodged a complaint against the customs officials with RGIA police over the incident. He, however, did not name any officer, Mr. Srinivas Rao said.
The passenger was reportedly detained at the airport by the officials for baggage check, following which there was a heated argument between them. Later, the officials allegedly beat up the passenger, the ACP said.
“Further details could be known only after a probe. A case, though, has been registered against the eight customs officials who were on duty on the day of the alleged incident,” he explained. — PTI
