7 drown in three incidents

Seven persons drowned in three incidents in the State on Sunday.

Four children drowned in a tank at Burhanpur of Bomraspet of neighbouring Vikarabad district on Sunday. Yaqoob, 9, and his sister Mary, 6, along with Karthika, 4, and Shivaleela, 6, entered the tank playfully and drowned, the police said. Prabhu, father of Yaqoob and Mary, hails from Basheerabad. Along with wife and children, he came to Burhanpur where his in-laws live to attend festivities of a local deity. While the elders were busy attending the ritual, the children went to the tank while playing around. The bodies of the four children were retrieved by the villagers.

In another case, a 14-year-old boy N. Sainath died after slipping into the water sump of a house Balajinagar of Jawaharnagar in Rachakonda police commissionerate area. The boy was trying to fetch water from the sump and fell into it, the police said.

In Adilabad, two youths drowned in Kuntala waterfall on Sunday after falling into the pool from the top. This is the season’s first mishap at the beautiful place which otherwise is also known to be a dangerous picnic spot.

According to police, Md. Ansar, a 23-year-old motorcycle mechanic and Md. Fayaz, a 22-year-old degree student, hailed from Argul village in Jakranpalli mandal of Nizamabad district. They were part of a group of five picnickers.

Ansari and Fayaz slipped from top of the waterfall while taking pictures. The area is actually forbidden for visitors but there are not enough security people to man the dangerous spots.
