A ‘cordon and search’ operation by the Falaknuma police of the South Zone, early on Thursday morning led to the arrest of 64 suspects from areas falling under the limits of Falaknuma, Chatrinaka and Moghulpura police stations.

The areas include Sulthan Shahi, Pardiwada, R.N. Colony and Badjibaba Nagar. The operation was led by Assistant Commissioner Md. Tajuddin Ahmed on instructions of the Hyderabad Commissioner M. Mahender Reddy, especially in view of the ensuing Ganesh festival and Bakrid.

Police used the recently launched Mobile Electronic Fingerprinting Equipment and identified 12 persons who had non-bailable warrants against them and six with a criminal record. On person by name Md. Ajiz, a resident of Nawab Shab Kunta was found to be carrying a dagger with him. Mr. Tajuddin said the antecedents of Md. Ajiz and 45 others, stated to be from Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh were being verified.

3 ‘sorcerers’ held

Police nabbed three persons who had allegedly cheated innocent people by indulging in black magic and sorcery. The trio included M. Bhagwan, Sanjay and Sravan Kumar who alleged cheated people suffering from depression. They were arrested under Section 420 of the Indian Penal Code and under Section 7 of the Drugs and Magic Remedies Act, 1954.

A raid on belt shops in Chatrinaka and parts of Falaknuma that are well-known for sale of illicit liquor led to seizure of liquor bottles from the house of one Prabhakar Reddy.

Focus on those with history sheets and those who were considered ‘rowdies’, led to the police taking them into custody and counselling them to maintain good behaviour. Twelve people were being produced before an Executive Magistrate for being ‘bound over’, Mr. Tajuddin said.

Six persons were arrested for riding horses on main roads, for their negligence in endangering the lives of people. In the past, the police officer said a horse rider had killed a person in Mailardevpally police limits.
