Towards ensuring better connectivity on the city outskirts, five more radial roads have been proposed.
The HMDA, which had planned a total of 33 radial roads, has already completed seven of them.
Offering connectivity between the new Outer Ring Road (ORR) and the old Inner Ring Road (IRR), these stretches are being taken up with assistance from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
The new stretches proposed would run for a total length of around 70.15 km at Patny Junction-Shamirpet, Habsiguda-Bogarum, Kanchanbagh-Nadargul, Taranagar-Devaraguda and Nizampet X road-Kazipalle.
Using the available studies and traffic data from various departments such as GHMC, R&B and others, Feasibility studies were already carried out and now a Detailed Project Report with road inventory survey is to be carried out.
Short-term improvements proposed include grade junction improvements with signals or channelisers, provision for street-parking or prohibiting it based on congestion and land availability and widening of roads at bottlenecks. In the longer term, widening of roads to the right of way with service road and construction of grade separated intersections is to be taken up.
The radial roads are meant to decongest traffic and drive vehicles comfortably towards the ORR and seven of these were operational, officials said.
