The All India Muslim Educational Society (AIMES) demanded the government to ensure four per cent reservation for Muslims in education and employment. The State and Central governments should create a supervisory mechanism to ensure its proper implementation.
The educational conference organised by the AIMES here the other day was presided over by former Minister Asif Pasha.
The society asked the State and Central governments to issue minority status certificates on permanent basis to minority educational institutions subject to periodic inspection and verification. Presently the certificates are issued after much hassle for a period of one year only.
The conference noted the administrative difficulties being faced in disbursement of scholarships to schools and colleges and reimbursement of fee and urged the government to empower the newly created Minority Commissionerate to ensure effective coordination between itself and the Social Welfare Department.
‘Implement Urdu’
The conference wanted the government to appoint at least one Urdu knowing officer/translator in each department for proper implementation of Urdu, the second official language.
The conference also unanimously resolved to request the government to implement the recommendations of the Sachar Committee and Justice Rangnath Misra Commission.
