34 persons sent to jail for drink-driving

City courts have handed over jail sentences to 34 people who were caught for drink-driving.

The Third Metropolitan Magistrate awarded three-day jail sentences to 30 motorists, while the Fourth Metropolitan Magistrate sentenced three persons to a day’s imprisonment and another to a two-day term.

With this, a total of 299 motorists have been sent behind bars for drink-driving in the city since November 2011, a police official said.

All the 34 were caught during a special drive conducted last weekend. They were found with Blood Alcohol Content of more than 100 mg alcohol per 100 ml of blood.

A total of 365 motorists were caught during the drive and were produced before the local courts after counselling sessions held at Traffic Training Institutes in Begumpet and Goshamahal. Two hundred and ninety-six were driving two-wheelers, 62 driving four-wheelers; five were on auto rickshaws and two on heavy vehicles.
