The government had allocated ₹34 crore to be spent for development of tribals in Adilabad, Kumram Bheem Asifabad and Mancherial district, Mancherial District Collector R.V. Karnan, who is also in charge Project Officer of Utnoor Integrated Tribal Development Agency said.

He was speaking after inaugurating an awareness programme for directors of the Aboriginal Tribes Welfare Advisory Committee (ATWAC) as well as members of Village Tribal Development Agencies (VTDA) here on Thursday.

There was need for awareness among directors of the ATWAC as well as members of VTDAs on various welfare programmes of the ITDA to help development of people of tribal communities, he along with Adilabad MP G. Nagesh and ATWAC chairman Kanaka Lakke Rao said.

The ITDA had welfare programmes that covered health and education aspects of tribal people among others, they explained.

Mortality

In recent years there has been a drastic decrease in mother mortality and infant mortality rate in the Agency areas thanks to proper implementation of health schemes for tribal people.

Talking about various types of civil disputes, Mr. Karnan said according to a Supreme Court ruling the Project Officer of ITDAs has judicial powers in civil matters. However, there was a Special Deputy Collector appointed to help the tribals in their land disputes, he added.
