The Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) has removed around 3,000 metric tonnes of Ganesh idol immersion related material in the last 10 days from the Hussainsagar lake.

After the final immersion was over late on Thursday evening, the salvage teams worked through the night and removed 1,600 metric tonnes which has been moved to the GHMC facility at Lower Tank Bund for further shifting to the dump yard.

According to the HMDA Member Environment, R.P. Khajuria, the entire cleaning operations for the idol immersion were completed within 24 hours after the final immersion as per the court orders.

“Our teams have been cleaning the lake on daily basis since the immersion process started and on the final day of the immersion, more personnel were pressed into service for the cleaning operations,” he said.

Last year, the HMDA removed 782 metric tonnes after the final immersion day.
