3 held for Filmnagar building collapse

GHMC expected to take further decision after receiving a report from the technical committee of JNTU on the causes of the collapse

July 29, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 07:54 am IST - HYDERABAD:

After two days of questioning, the Banjara Hills police on Thursday arrested three persons in connection with the building that collapsed inside the Film Nagar Cultural Centre.

The centre’s engineer, Sudhakar Rao, labour contractor Kondal Rao, and centring contractor Balraju were arrested and produced before the court. All the three accused, who had been named in the case, were granted bail. The case is related to the under-construction portico which collapsed on Sunday, leading to the death of two workers and injuring eight others.

Meanwhile, the committee president K.S. Rama Rao did not appear before the police even after being issued notices two days ago. Earlier, the High Court issued direction not to arrest the FNCC president in response to a quash petition filed by his lawyer. It directed the police to serve notice under CrPc 41 and hear his version. Only after the version of the president is heard can further action be taken, the court noted.

The centre remained sealed, and the GHMC is expected to take further decision after receiving a report from the technical committee of JNTU on the causes of the collapse.
