Four persons, including three cops, were held by Hyderabad Police on Tuesday for extortion.
Constables Kateeb Ahmed, Bojjagani Venugopal and Peri Vijay Babu, working at different police stations, along with Peri Vijay Babu, allegedly barged into a Banjara Hills spa and extorted money from the establishment’s owner. They threatened to book the establishment if the owner did not pay up, and managed to extort ₹1.35 lakh, the Detective Department said.
Police recovered ₹95,000 and a video clip recorded that they snatched from the spa to prevent being caught.
Duo held for cheating bank
Two persons were arrested for allegedly cheating a bank of ₹1.5 crore. They had furnished fake documents to secure loan, said police.
Officials of the Central Crime Station arrested Dulam Nagendra and Marella Laxma Reddy, who borrowed the amount from Andhra Bank’s Marredpally branch.
Nagendra defaulted on the repayment, prompting the bank to attempt to take possession of the property mortgaged by Reddy for the borrower.
When the bank conducted a physical verification of the property, they realised the documents were fake.
Reddy had shown 5.28 acres in Ramdaspally Village of Ranga Reddy as his own.
