GHMC Commissioner M.T. Krishna Babu has directed the Deputy Municipal Commissioners to assess the property tax for unauthorised structures 25 per cent more when compared to other buildings.
And, all the buildings which occupy more than two-thirds of the ground coverage are to be assessed.
He also pointed out that mere assessment of tax does not confer any ownership title for any unauthorised building. With regard to the ongoing demolitions in L.B. Nagar, Mr. Krishna Babu said that action was being taken against commercial buildings built illegally.
Survey
A survey conducted in the circle had revealed that 170 buildings were constructed illegally and after removing residential buildings, 30 structures were identified for demolitions.
He also stated that the GHMC Act was being amended so as to levy 200 per cent penalty on property tax on unauthorised buildings.
The government was also approached to ensure that power, water and sewerage connections are denied to buildings constructed without permission. Similarly, the registration department too was requested not to register any such building. While the Water Board was also acting on the rule, Acts of the other departments have to be amended, he said.
He reiterated these points to a Telugu Desam delegation led by former Minister T. Srinivas Yadav when they protested against the demolitions.
Later, he received Serilingampally MLA Bikshapathi Yadav and on his request agreed to construct compound walls for nine grave yards and make Khajaguda sports stadium functional by removing encroachments.
Mayor election
Meanwhile, State Election Commissioner P. Ramakanth Reddy has issued notification that election to Mayor and Deputy Mayor posts would be held on Dec.30 or else on Dec.31 through a special meeting of the council. The district Collector would be the election authority.
All the 150 corporators and 66 ex-officio members, including city MPs, MLAs and MLCs, can vote but not the five co-opted members.
Election would be by show of hands and not a secret ballot. The Mayor election would be followed by the poll for Deputy Mayor.
