The long-cherished dream of 24x7 water supply to the people of Karimnagar town is likely to be fulfilled soon, as the Municipal authorities have launched the ambitious task of laying new water pipelines.

The Karimnagar legislator Gangula Kamalakar had promised to ensure 24x7 water supply during the 2009 elections. The municipal authorities then, had decided to launch round-the-clock water under the Jyothinagar reservoir limits, by fixing water meters in the region. However, it failed to materialise due to various reasons.

The pilot project took shape following an assurance given by Minister for Municipal Administration K. Taraka Rama Rao during his review meeting in Karimnagar town in the month of February this year. The 24x7 water supply would be taken up with the technical support of Administrative Staff College of India (ASCI) and Vishwas agency of Maharashtra which had ensured 24x7 water supply in Nagpur city. Now, the Karimnagar town being included in the Smart City list, it had become mandatory for the authorities to expedite the water supply at the earliest at a cost of ₹150 crore. As part of the programme, the municipal authorities would construct reservoirs and pump houses for the supply of water.

Mayor S. Ravinder Singh launched the laying of new pipelines in Ashoknagar locality in Karimnagar town on Thursday. Talking to The Hindu , he said that they would replace all the existing pipelines measuring 6 inches with 8 and 10 inches to provide 24x7 water supply in the town.

The proposal to provide round-the-clock water supply was pending since last few years, he said, adding that it would be completed as part of the smart city programme tentatively by the end of December 2018.

Inclusive outreach

He said that they would fix meters for all the water tap connections in the households.
