If it was not for the two-day general strike, Valle Ramulu (56) may have escaped death.
The GHMC Superintendent in the Urban Community Department at the head office was one of the first victims of the blasts. “Both the days he went to office and returned home because of the strike. Otherwise, he would not have gone to Dilsukhnagar on Thursday,” said his brother-in-law, Mr. Narasimha.
GHMC photographer Ramesh, who was, incidentally, present at the OGH, having come in search of another missing person, recognised Ramulu’s body and informed Mayor Mohd. Majid Hussain.
Ramulu is survived by his wife, son and three daughters.
An ex-gratia of Rs.1 lakh and a Junior Assistant post for one member of the family were also announced.
Mr. Krishna Babu announced that all employees would contribute half-day salary amounting to Rs.6.22 lakh to the bereaved family. Minister for Municipal Administration M. Maheedhar Reddy said Ramulu’s family would get all pensionary benefits along with the Centre’s ex gratia of Rs. 2 lakh and Rs. 6 lakh from the State.
GHMC to pay ex-gratia
Mayor Mohd. Majid Hussain said the GHMC will pay an ex-gratia of Rs.1 lakh to each of the 16 deceased in the blasts.
