About 22 people, mostly women and children, fell ill after consuming snacks purchased reportedly from a bakery at Hafeezbabanagar, here. The condition of a few is stated to be critical, GHMC officials said.

Of the 22 persons, 15 were admitted to Fever Hospital and another seven are undergoing treatment at Community Health Centre, Barkas in old city, officials said.

The affected persons said that they ate chicken burger and pastries three days ago and soon fell sick. “I bought chicken burgers on Saturday and after consuming it six of my family members complained of vomiting and diarrhoea. After visiting private clinics we came to Barkas Hospital,” said Qasim, a plumber from Hafeezbabanagar.

Khairunnisa Begum, a housewife from the same locality, said that her son Syed Aleem bought burgers on Sunday and four of her family members fell sick after consuming it. Dr. Rajeev, Superintendant, Barkas Community Hospital said that seven persons were admitted to the hospital while four were referred to Fever Hospital for further treatment. A few more left after taking outpatient treatment, he said.

Meanwhile, the GHMC officials sealed the bakery after collecting samples. “We will send the food samples to the laboratory for examination and take action based on the report,” said Assistant Medical and Health Officer, Circle IV, Dr. Venkata Ramana. The Kanchanbagh police registered a case and started investigation.
