The State government has proposed an expenditure of ₹ 20,146 crore for infrastructure development in Hyderabad by borrowing loans from banks and other lending institutions.
The breakup of expenditure is : roads - ₹ 6,700 crore; drinking water supply and Mission Bhagiratha - ₹ 2,926 crore; Musi river development - ₹ 1,665 crore, LED lighting - ₹ 400 crore; drainages expansion - ₹ 230 crore and double bedroom housing - ₹ 8,225 crore, a release of Municipal Administration Minister K.T. Rama Rao’s office said.
The money will be spent by Water Board, GHMC, Hyderabad Road Development Corporation and Musi Development Corporation.
The release added that the slew of funds were proposed to be spent to develop Hyderabad as a global city. The road development corporation will take up white-topping of roads to a length of 300 km to meet international standards. Works have already started at some places under the Strategic Road Development Plan. Tendering for these works worth ₹ 1,700 crore has been completed. The Detailed Project Report (DPR) for some other works costing ₹ 100 crore has been prepared.
The next priority for the government was drinking water supply through the launch of Mission Bhagiratha programme in urban areas. Works worth ₹ 1,900 crore under the programme which were already launched will be completed by next summer. The government will take up one lakh double bedroom houses in 109 locations of Hyderabad for ₹ 8,225 crore. The tendering for the houses is nearing completion.
Works to fix LED lights on the main thoroughfares at ₹ 400 crore by Diwali are in progress. The government was focussed on maintenance of storm water and sewerage by spending up to ₹ 230 crore on expansion of drainages. The DPR for the drinking water reservoir at Keshavapuram at an estimated ₹ 7,000 crore will be prepared soon.
